Lido di Ostia

Lido di Ostia Lido di Ostia beach is closest to the centre of Rome, making it a popular beach destination among locals. The Lido di Ostia's Stabilimenti Balnearet offers families all the services they need to spend a day at the beach without leaving the beach, as the Italian way is often spent all day on the beach, leaving only around 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

About Lido di Ostia

The beaches of Lido di Ostia are urban beach resorts where life is lively and there is plenty of excitement. The beach may involve the whole family, from toddlers to grandparents, so the beach services cover everything for everyone. There are playgrounds for the youngest members of the family, and for those who are a little older, there is the opportunity to play, for example, beach volleyball. Snacks and drinks can be bought at the bar, and lunch can be enjoyed at the restaurant.

Lido di Ostia also has stylish beach clubs where you can continue your day at the beach until the night. At the clubs, you can enjoy an apericena or cocktail while watching the sun set on the Tyrrena Sea while a DJ plays Italodisco.  V lounge Beach, Tibidabo beach and Chilling are great destinations for those looking for a little luxury or nightlife.

The beaches of Lido di Ostia have not achieved Blue Flag status. However, the beaches are fine sand, and their water is clean. The beaches are shallow and suitable even for the youngest members of the family. If you're used to northern Italian or Tuscan cleanliness, Lido di Ostia might seem shabby and untidy in places. However, if you have planned to spend all your time in a beach facility, this is okay, as the stabilities are well kept.

Lido Di Ostia can be recommended especially for families travelling with young people, as it offers an opportunity to see what kind of social beach life local young people lead. A beach day at Lido di Ostia can also be combined with a trip to Castel Romano design Outlet or Cinecitta world. If you are travelling by car, it is advisable to arrive at Lido di Ostia on time, as there may be a bit of a battle for parking spaces. However, parking spaces can be found along the entire promenade.

Lido di Ostia can be reached by metro and train. Take Metro line B from Termini and continue to Piramide, where change to the local train to the Lido at Porta S. Paolo station, get off the Lido centro. The beach is 500m away. Fiumicino Airport offers direct access to Lido Di Ostia from the Cotral bus stop in front of the terminal.

My trip to Lido di Ostia

Lido di Ostia, Bustling Beach near Rome

We decided to spend the evening in Lido di Ostia because a thunderstorm appeared in the hills of Sabina out of nowhere and the possibility of rain as a result. Grilling planned for Sunday night no longer seemed like a good idea.

I decided to take a look at the local weather app, which showed that the sun was shining on the Roman coast. We decided to move to a better atmosphere for the evening and postpone the barbecue to a later time. An evening stroll along the beach, an aperitivo and pizza seemed like a better option than escaping thunder indoors.

If the weather in Rome seems rainy or cloudy according to forecasts, and you would rather stay in the sunshine, you should always check the weather on the coast, as the sun may well shine on the narrow stretch of coastline even if the weather is not favorable in the center of Rome.

So we drove to Lido di Ostia and managed to park the car even though the locals' beach day hadn't ended yet, and the parking lots were still full. On a Sunday evening in June, there were relatively many people in traffic. Lido di Ostia is especially popular with locals because it is easy to reach from Rome by public transport.

As a locality, Ostia is not necessarily the most attractive setting for a beach day, as its architecture is grandiose and dilapidated, and there is no stylish beach promenade with trendy shops and restaurants, but paid balnearies next to each other. On the other hand, it doesn't matter if you plan to spend the whole day just on the beach.

We walked along the boardwalk marveling at the lively beach life. There were a lot of local young people and whole families hanging out on the beach. We stopped by the aperitivo in the balneare to sniff the sea air, and after the aperitivo we decided to go for pizza.

After pizza we ended up taking a walk to admire the sunset at Porto turistico di Ostia. In the pleasant harbor you will find charming restaurants where you can enjoy dinner or order an ice cream, coffee or cold drink and watch the sailboats swinging in the harbor. There are also some small boutiques in the harbor that you can visit during an evening stroll. In my opinion, Porto turistico di Ostia is a more pleasant option than the Lido di Ostia for lunch or the end of the beach day with dinner.
